How to check how much CO₂ remains in a cylinder

The amount of carbon dioxide remaining is determined by weight. Subtract the empty cylinder’s weight from the total weight.

The empty 40-litre cylinders we work with typically weigh 62–70 kg. With a 24 kg carbon dioxide fill, the total weight is 86–94 kg. The exact weight depends on the cylinder; check its tare marking.

If a regulator or other attachments are fitted when weighing the cylinder, their weight must also be taken into account.

A pressure gauge alone cannot show the remaining quantity. It measures pressure: while liquid carbon dioxide remains inside, gas can be used while the reading stays roughly the same for a long time.
